Chameleon Design Featured Project: Lexington Plan 3, Valencia

The design and decor of Lexington Plan 3 in Valencia was geared towards the entertainment industry buyer. The plan is a family home with great rooms but no formal spaces. Chameleon Design took a modern eclectic approach with styling, which we know is great for active families.

The red brick wall in the flex space study creates a focal “moment” upon entry. Brick is already on the exterior and repeated inside as well on the family room fireplace. Concrete looking tiles, light taupe walls, warm espresso wood tones and lots of color pops create a modern, spunky, eclectic design. This home is perfect for a family with teenage kids, for it lends to a vibe that’s elegant and casual at the same time.

Chameleon Design Featured Project: Lexington Plan 2, Valencia

One of the newest trends in the housing industry is multi-generational living. Lennar has answered the demand by designing a home within a home that allows extended family to all live together- with private, separate living spaces. The unique floor plan includes a one bedroom apartment with its own entrance, bedroom, bath, kitchenette and living area. The apartment also has a lockable door that connects it to the house.

Chameleon Design was brought on to design the Lexington Plan.  The challenge was to create a comfortable spacious feeling, while about a third of the space on the first floor is taken up by the apartment within the home.   We were able to strike a balance between crisp and cozy with an updated farmhouse style.  The home is designed for a young family and a live in mother-in-law, so we liked the idea of being drawn in by the worn-in pieces, but didn’t want a flea market look.

We accomplished this by devoting some space to modern display.  The bonus room upstairs had clean framed game boards and the physical graffiti (this happened organically from pencils we left for the kids to draw with). Mom’s desk in the kitchen is a nice feature too.

Chameleon Design Featured Project: Valinda Plan 4, San Juan Capistrano

Chameleon Design worked with Woodbridge Pacific on this project.  The home is 3,817 square feet, five bedrooms and 4.5 baths.  The style is what we call an “Updated Hacienda.”  The colors are rich natural tones of caramel, copper, deep teal, cream and olive, and the floors are done with Moroccan pavers, tying the style together nicely.

My favorite thing about this home is the open kitchen which looks onto the Capistrano room (the 447 square foot outside room). I also love the family room which has an option to have a bonus room, shown in the photos below. It’s a wonderful family home.

Chameleon Design Featured Project: The Ridge Plan 8, Mission Viejo

The themes of The Ridge Plan 8 are urban contemporary and whimsical. We drew inspiration from Z-Gallerie for this model, using mixed modern and transitional furniture. The refined, bohemian look was pulled together with a color palette that included: purple, bone, mink, fuchsia, lime green, blue and teal. We used smokey, gray neutral fabrics with pops of colorful prints and whimsical, sculptural accessories. The end result was a glamorous, yet unconventional look that was a lot of fun.

Chameleon Design Featured Project: The Ridge Plan 7, Mission Viejo

The Ridge Plan 7 was done in a style called natural contemporary.  For the color palette we used  warm neutrals, stone grey, chamois and warm whites.  We brought in a lot of texture into the design to give it an organic feel, and also a bit masculine.  We used clean and modern upholstery and natural wood accents, such as the cocktail table made of wood slices to round out the earthy feel.

Chameleon Design Featured Project: Orange County Dream Home- Living Room

Chameleon Design was lucky to be a part of the ASID Dream Home this year.  The home was designed by over one dozen Orange County interior designers and Chameleon Design did the living room.  The Dream Home was on view from March 1-25th in Costa Mesa and benefited the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The Living Room design has a clean and modern feeling, with a color palette of natural wood tones, light neutrals and citron green and fuchsia accents.  We call the style “natural elegance.”  You will notice a balance of elements that evoke a modern feeling: natural woods, patina metal, sculptural plants, textured fabrics,  original art canvas’ and a reflective mirror.   The paint color is light grey and the floors are natural concrete in keeping with the modern style. The lighting consists of an overhead chandelier, directional tracks with art lights, two wall sconces and two floor lamps.

The sofa upholstery fabric is chenille with mohair and woven chenille pillows.  They are sitting on a grey mottled rug with a natural root ball table as the sculptural and focal element in the room.  The simple, clean lined floor lamps in metal and glass help create the symmetrical feel of the room.

Anchoring the seating area is a large metal faced fire place made from patina sheet metal.  The fireplace itself is a modern eco-smart firebox insert in stainless steel.  The fireplace needs no ventilation and uses a renewable energy source- bio ethanol and has clean emissions. Grey felt ottomans float in front of the fireplace for additional lounging or seating. On either side of the fireplace the walls are mirrored with full height mirror and natural sheer drapery.

The accessories include natural elements like a terrarium collection and crystals.  Universal design is considered and the furniture layout accommodates access thru the space between the doors.  An open area in the seating grouping allows a wheel chair to join in and a 5’ radius to turn is allowed at that point as well.

Chameleon Design Featured Project: The Wine Cellar, 2011 Philharmonic Design House- Newport Coast

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County has been presenting design houses since 1993. It’s their largest fundraiser and benefits their free Youth Music Education Programs which provides musical experiences and education for over 200,000 students in Orange County.   Maison de la Mer was last year’s House of Design and is a beautiful French inspired home with wonderful indoor/outdoor elements that are perfect for entertaining. Chameleon Design had the honor of designing the wine cellar.

We began with that point of view that wine is more than just a bottle to be enjoyed- it’s about an entire experience. This wine cellar and sampling room was inspired by the rustic elements of the wine country, yet we incorporated a modern edge through clean lines and natural elements.   Throughout the space you can see components from the wine making process from barrels that aged the wine, to the wooden crates that shipped the bottles. You will also see organic items that, like a fine wine, have been given their beauty through age.

Relax and enjoy conversation with friends and family around the reclaimed live-edge acacia table. It’s made of reclaimed wood and displays a leaf organically carved and made of onyx, with a sea urchin on top of it.  Adding to the relaxed feeling of the space, Joan élan Davis’ painting, Tranquility, is an an interplay of closely valued colors and varied textures in a painterly woven format. Layers of an earthy brown upon a russet upon burgundy in one palette to deep, rich greens in another lend a sense of movement to the surface.

At one end of the room is a striped buffet. A sustainable, organic and contemporary piece, the buffet is made of reclaimed teak and the stripes are formed from scrap wood in a variety of hues. Above this hangs a custom art piece commissioned for the room.  The Untitled piece is made of recycled wine crates and was done by Alex Adamonis of Woodworking LA.  Iron sconces flank the art, allowing you to see the depth and variety of the piece.

Just like the rolling hills of California wine country in the spring months, the colors chosen reflect golden yellows, vineyard greens, cabernet reds and the grey of morning fog.  The walls are textured with a Venetian-like plaster, and painted French Grey in the tasting room and Mahogany in the cellar.

Chameleon Design Featured Project: Harmony at Colony Park, Anaheim

Chameleon Design won a Mame Award for this hip and playful Sales Office we designed at Colony Park in Anaheim.   Our idea was to use a vintage, chic design to lure in the younger buyers, as well as the “move-down” buyers looking to re-live their more youthful years.

The environment was very non-traditional for a sales office with its coffee house/lounge feel.

Multi-colored fabrics and patterns layered together give it that “collected” vibe.

Soulful tunes playing in the background and a guitar leaning in the corner may encourage someone to sit back a while and ponder a place where life is good!
