Project Highlight: Reverie, Plan 3, Rancho Mission Viejo, CA

It’s not a dream! Chameleon Design worked with William Lyon Homes to bring Reverie to life for homeowners drawn to comfortable, spacious living in Rancho Mission Viejo. We were inspired by Reverie’s farmhouse architecture and carried the style indoors.  To curate the right lived-in vibe, we mixed elements from traditional farmhouse as well as coastal design – including distressed furniture, a soothing palette of earthy neutrals and washed-and-worn blues, and natural materials – to convey comfortable casualness.

DESIGNING A CALIFORNIA ORIGINAL

Riverstone — Madera County’s newest and biggest master-planned community — arrived in January 2017, quickly embracing home-buying families who gravitated toward the original way of life possible in this 2,000-acre Central California enclave just 48 miles away from the entrance to Yosemite National Park. With innovative homes, a sustainable water supply and a land plan protecting the project’s natural resources, Riverstone is ushering in a new level of Valley life dedicated to the cultivation of happy, healthy families. At build-out, the community will offer eight residential districts with 6,578 homes in walkable neighborhoods, parks, trails and open space, multiple community clubhouses, a dog park, a community farm, historic olive and citrus groves, commercial and mixed-use space, and on-site schools.

We’re still reeling from #TheNationals earlier this month! Our Riverstone Welcome Center earned us a Silver award and we took home the Gold award for Best Master-Planned Community along with builder Riverstone Development LLC, marketing director Nick Bruno, ad agency InterCommunications, landscape designer Terry Broussard of Broussard & Associations and architect WHA.

Given the opportunity to design the welcome center and community clubhouse, Chameleon Design borrowed cues from the local region to attract homebuyers to an activities-rich lifestyle. The team prioritized cutting-edge design and technology for the welcome center, selecting modern furnishings and a wide array of exhibits and materials. A glass display touts the community’s high points in a fresh way, while a wall-mounted screen reveals rotating lifestyle and landscape images, while a tabletop interactive touch screen lets visitors swipe their way to community specifics, including details on the upcoming residential districts. Bikes, kayaks and other adventure gear are whimsical reminders of the outdoor fun at the community. The welcome center, just like the community it represents, is a unique place — one alive with family fun, camaraderie and a wholesome agrarian spirit.

Intent on bringing this spirit to life at the community clubhouse, Chameleon Design created The Lodge. Designed to meet the needs of active families, the innovative clubhouse offers an array of in-demand amenities including a state-of-the-art fitness center with advanced equipment, a great room and flexible gathering places with Wi-Fi, a demonstration kitchen, and even a gear barn outfitted with essentials homeowners might need for on- and off-site adventures. Just outside The Lodge, residents enjoy a resort-style pool and spa with poolside cabanas, a children’s pool, an outdoor bar with fire pit conversation areas and a community garden. The venue’s differentiating architectural vernacular — what we call deconstructed agrarian industrialism — combines the rusticity of farm with the magnificence of the national park lodges of yesteryear. It features exposed beams, grand windows, and authentic and enduring building materials, such as Sierra Nevada granite and tin roofs that have 100-year lifespans.

YOU DO IT YOUR WAY: A TRIBUTE TO THE RAT PACK

Paying tribute to Desert Modernism, Skye by Woodbridge Pacific Group lies within walking distance of downtown Palm Springs and the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. Skye is living up to its heritage as a Hollywood playground — an enclave offering a dream community that will only get better over time — in part thanks to the striking midcentury styling and updated designs Chameleon Design infused into this discerning community, showcased by this Residence 2 floor plan.

Chameleon Design struck a bold departure from other model interiors to pay homage to Desert Modernism, postwar Palm Springs’ rich midcentury modern architecture. The design evokes the bygone elegance of the Rat Pack and other Hollywood icons who favored this desert oasis as their swinging playground. A vintage avocado-and-aqua palette is enriched with velvet throws and faux fur; gold and brass accents add glamour.

Skye is living up to its heritage as a Hollywood playground, earning the Gold award for Best Detached Community of the Year, an honor Chameleon Design shares with Woodbridge Pacific Group, Hannouche Architects, Roxburgh, Professional Design Associates and Outdoor Dimensions. The Nationals also honored Chameleon Design with the Gold award for the Best Interior Merchandising of a Model priced over $1.5 million and a Silver award in the same category.

Artful interplay between indoor/outdoor space is evident in the lounge, which draws attention to the lavish pool court — where a signature sculpture and suspended seating basket elevate otherwise versatile furnishings. Unadorned sliders also permit seamless transition to outdoor leisure.

Although nostalgic, the design feels thoroughly fresh; Chameleon Design catered to sophisticated buyers who prize their homes as entertainment centers. With extravagant light fixtures and adjacent cocktail lounge, the crisp white kitchen boosts an open island design, ideal for entertaining. A great room with hearth and media wall completes the hospitality spaces. Large-format porcelain tile flooring unites the whole design, and retreats are equally distinctive. Book-matched marble, cantilevered cabinetry and recessed mirrors dramatize the master bath. Textural linens and wall coverings, and locally produced art and accents highlight all bedrooms.

Project Highlight: SKYE BY WOODBRIDGE PACIFIC GROUP, PLAN 4, PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA

The Skye’s the Limit in Palm Springs
Paying tribute to Desert Modernism, Skye by Woodbridge Pacific Group lies within walking distance of downtown Palm Springs and the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. Chameleon Design chose to boldly honor these icons when the developer extended the opportunity to model possibilities for this newly built luxury midcentury modern enclave. True to the design history of this former Hollywood playground, Chameleon Design embraced the indoor-outdoor entertaining by emphasizing exterior details, such as the many different types of entertaining areas in this pool and courtyard in the front of the home. Inside, a rich assemblage of warm neutrals and sleek finishes creates a masculine tone that is intertwined throughout. The lounge/bar is set off by a feature wall of large format 59″ x 118″ porcelain tile and the great room fireplace feature wall has two tiles that elude classic midcentury modernism. Throughout, you can find collections of original art from local artists and antique stores, minimal accessories and accents that create the sophistication of Desert Modernism. The design also makes the most of voluminous spaces, with oversized and specialty lighting that highlights kitchen, dining and retreat spaces.

Project Highlight: Celadon at Parasol Park, Plan 2, Irvine, California

A Midcentury Escape within the Great Park Neighborhoods

Meet Celadon at Parasol Park. Is it a midcentury escape or minimalist’s dream ensconced in picked-from-nature textures and colors? We believe it’s the best of both. Chameleon Design brought out the bones and beauty of these attached townhomes and detached condo-style homes in Irvine, accenting the crisp white shiplapped walls and light-embracing layout with a delicate desert palette of sand, linen, brown and white. Calming décor connect neutral silhouettes while anchoring wood and linen textures with metal pendant lights and lamps bases. Area rugs bearing geometric patterns break up an otherwise monochromic expression of midcentury-meets-minimalist design, just as sleek gray kitchen cabinets enhance porcelain limestone-look flooring. Residents can entertain guests in the spacious living room or outdoor on the hammock-hanging veranda.

Project Highlight: Mason, Plan 2, Playa Vista, CA

Beachy, Dreamy and Extremely Modern

Meet Mason in Playa Vista. Is it a beach escape or a city enclave? We say both – although homebuyers in this Westside Los Angeles community simply call it a modern dream. Brookfield Residential engaged Chameleon Design to bring this coastal brownstone to life. We chose a spectrum of beachy colors to adorn the wood floors, linen upholstery, woven accents and exposed brick walls, and relied upon a shock of abstract art and a sampling of chandeliers and pendant lights for a modern take on coastal living. Residents can entertain effortlessly on the deck or retreat to a chaise lounge in their master bedroom. Even a blue barn door – a nod to the Pacific Ocean – is meant to evoke the natural wonders outdoors while providing privacy inside.

Project Highlight: Hillcrest for Woodbridge Pacific Group, Plan 4, Chino Hills, CA

A Family Retreat

This rustic modern oasis at Hillcrest for Woodbridge Pacific Group in Chino Hills is well-suited for families with young children looking to move up from their starter homes or empty nesters seeking to downsize. Chameleon Design employed neutral hues of caramel, linen, sand and smoke create to buffer from the hustle and bustle beyond the front door. The spacious staircase, warm wood design aesthetics and wood-like porcelain flooring appeal equally to modernists and vintage lovers. At the center of it all is an open kitchen displaying stainless steel appliances, light gray cabinets and slate countertops – just waiting for a cook’s loving touch and creative flourishes.

Dreamy, Beachy and Extremely Modern

Brookfield Residential tapped Chameleon Design to help set the stage for modern families living in the west side of coastal Los Angeles. At Mason in Playa Vista, we designed a contemporary, masculine scheme by incorporating smoky wood cabinets and paneling details for the mainstage entry and living room. We also invited nature in by grounding gray walls with tiles that appear like wood and continued this theme by selecting modern wood furniture and brown leather accents. The downstairs studio is just right for mom to use as a hub for hobbies or dad to watch the big game without interruption.
