Home Design Trends // Industrial Chic

While formerly reserved for the likes of exposed brick lofts and industrial condo spaces, the industrial look has woven  its way into the mainstream and homes of both urban-dwellers and suburbanites. With simple shapes and raw materials like galvanized steel, glass and reclaimed wood, the look can be easily incorporated into your own home decor. The beauty of this look is that it’s versatile and fits in well with both traditional and contemporary spaces. Take a look at some pieces below that can easily be woven into existing designs and still make an impact.

Home Design Trends // Textured Walls

We all know that paint or wallpaper can transform the look of a room, but so can one of the latest new trends in home decor- textured walls! Whether you go for wood planks, stone or grass cloth, any of these materials will add amazing texture and depth to your space. Textured walls also offer interest without closing in the room with too many accessories or bright colors that you’ll likely grow tired of. Consider creating a textured focal wall in your entry, living room or master bedroom as seen in some of our recent projects below:

Home Design Trends // Wallpapered Ceilings

When we’re decorating our home, one of the last things we likely think about is the ceiling. However, your ceilings can be used to make a major statement at a relatively low cost, if you just add wallpaper! Wallpaper allows your ceiling to become a fifth wall and will draw the eye upward, in turn making the room feel larger. It will also add an unexpected surprise, not to mention character, that can truly transform a space.

Home Design Trends // Smoky Glass

Glass creates classy look and makes a room feel bright and open. When thinking about glass, clean and clear probably comes to mind, but how about trying something new and going for a smoky glass? You’d be surprised with the sense of mystery and intrigue the shade adds to an otherwise typical material. If you’re looking for some unique and modern touches in your home this could be exactly what you’re looking for.

Home Design Trends // Bright Yellow

Pantone has just announced it’s first character-inspired and branded color and we approve!  “Minion Yellow” is a bright shade inspired by and named after the lovable, kooky creatures from the Despicable Me film series. What we love about this playful hue is its ability to create a happy, uplifting feeling to any area in the home you choose to incorporate it. We’ve used this color in a few projects lately and you can really see how it has an amazing ability to transform a space.

Home Design Trends // Chintz

Floral patterns may scream 80’s, but they’ve made a roaring comeback. Combined with modern accents, they can look very chic. Few fabrics have the crisp look and fresh attitude of chintz. The pattern also has the ability to soften things. It’s a great way to both feminize and offset hard lines in modern homes.

Home Design Trends // Wood & White

Nothing looks better against wood than crisp, contrasting white. When you pair this color combo with the clean lines of modern mid-century furniture, you get design perfection. The look goes with just about anything too! Add a touch to your home and watch your space transform.

Home Design Trends // Navy Blue

Lately we’re loving pops of indigo blue and deep navy in home design. These rich colors make the perfect backdrop for statement art, and are ideal in cozy library spaces with built-in shelving or cabinets. Navy is the rare color that pairs well with others and can be used as a neutral or as an accent to lend any indoor or outdoor space a classic look. It’s also the perfect complement to Marsala, the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year, as its deep natural hues become extra vibrant against warm earth tones.

Home Design Trends // Painterly Prints

As Spring approaches, the weather will be brightening along with our color palettes. A trend that looks set to make an impact is ‘painterly’ homewares, which means anything with a watercolor or brush stroke style effect. From art prints through to rugs, cushions, tableware and even glass, you can spot painterly effects everywhere. Here is a selection of products to help you bring the look into your own home.

Home Design Trends // Pantone’s Color of the Year: Marsala

Reviews for Pantone’s latest color pick have been mixed, but we like it as an accent color for the home and its rich and earthy tone could be easily used as an updated neutral in any room- as long as it’s done sparingly. The shade would work nicely in the kitchen or dining room, as red shades stimulate the appetite. It would also work well in a powder room, as you can go for stronger, more daring choices in rooms that you don’t spend a lot of time in. The color is deep so just make sure your space has some white and/or natural light so that it doesn’t come off too dark and moody.

Style-wise, Marsala lends well to the bohemian look that is so popular right now. I can see us using it in a beautiful Moroccan rug, accent pillows or upholstery. It’s a beautiful shade and if used correctly, will lend an heir of sophistication to your home.
