Life, Sunny Side Up

It’s tough not to let an “ooh” or an “ah” slip when laying eyes on this gorgeous model designed by Chameleon Design in Palm Springs. Built by Woodbridge Pacific Group, The Que Plan 1 at Vibe is a true harken to modern architecture melded with mid-century design. Glossy white flooring pairs flawlessly with a white and yellow scheme, while reflective acrylic barstools and a glass coffee table create an even more open feel. Honey blond furnishings are placed throughout to contrast the white and yellow tones and warm up the space, and pieces like the giant dimensional lips and oversized yellow ottoman are the perfect design winks. The indoors and outdoors merge seamlessly with multiple sliders that lead to additional dining and occasional seating—all in vivacious Gen Z Yellow. Call your friends and break out the cocktail cart, the Que Plan 1 brings smiles all around.

Chameleon Design struck a unique balance of contemporary clean and natural bohemian in its Chateau Estates Plan 2 for Melia Homes in Garden Grove, CA. The cypress root console table in the entryway sets the tone, with natural wood elements repeated throughout the mixed palette of whites, creams, charcoals and apricot. Adding layers of warmth are the blonde, honey and dark wood furnishings with textural fabrics and wallpaper. Music loving Chateau dwellers are sure to enjoy the stunning piano niche and a karaoke loft defined by accented paint striping. Natural wood wall treatments contribute to the organic feel in the downstairs niche and master bath, while gorgeous marble chevron tile in the master bath adds the right amount of modern to the space. Put the welcome mat out, this cheerful and bright home is family- and friend-ready.

The Value of Words

Many of us use motivational or inspiring quotes at work or at the gym, but what about in our homes? Go for it! Whether they’re clever or sweet notes, bold or inspiring phrases, or soothing passages, signage should spark the desired reaction. The “oomph” to power through the day, be humble, or stay positive. Attitude adjustment is a great reason to add signage, but it can also serve as unique and eclectic artwork throughout the home. Choose wall décor to add dimension, or have your favorite words embroidered in an accent pillow. Whether they make a statement as stencils on a wall, created in chalk on a board, or painted by hand on wood or metal, there is power in words.

It doesn’t have to be busy. In fact, a simple pattern with clean lines on grasscloth is an ideal way to add visual interest without overpowering a space. Still, there are plenty of options. Proud to design Centerhouse Plan 1 for Trumark Homes in Ontario, CA this model takes center stage in the community with its timely combination of rustic and modern. Featuring a brilliant combination of fine artwork and finessed furniture, Centerhouse Plan 1 creates a sense of youthful energy through the use of blues and greens, crisp whites and vibrant greenery. In the dining area, a capiz shell chandelier hangs playfully over the wood-tone table, which is flanked by modern white dining chairs with warm wooden legs. This modern, yet cozy condo has every detail covered, with white tongue and groove accent walls and light pine flooring to create a cool, open-feeling space. Cheer Things Up with Blond Wood

To expand any-sized space, brighten a room and project a cleaner feel, go for light-toned flooring. Lighter floors contrast well with warmer, darker walls and furniture. So, go for that unapologetic statement piece (in navy perhaps?) without losing that open feel. In a bathroom, a reclaimed, light maple wood vanity adds earthy warmth to crisp, white countertops and walls. In a bedroom, light brown pieces against neutral walls create a peaceful, purposeful sanctuary. Yep, blonds are more fun. Just steer clear of those funky, orange-hued ’90s finishes. We need another decade before they’re considered vintage.

Beautiful, Versatile Navy Blue

Navy is a color with the power to take over a room and the confidence to make its presence known through bold accents. A room transformation can occur simply by painting. However, covering a wall or two with fabric or a wall-covering to add patterns, texture and dimension in this deep tone produces a distinct level of sophistication.

A vibrant element of style

Clearly, navy isn’t a shy hue. In fact, it can mix up the entire ecosystem of a room. The versatility of this tone makes it ideal as both an accent and a neutral (think blue denim). Navy pairs well with neutral palettes, spring tones, and crisp white. It brings a strong contrast to sunny yellow and orange and adds rich opulence with ruby reds and purples.

Not a hint of gloom

While many dark colors can feel a bit gloomy when used abundantly, navy blue evokes an optimistic elegance with a touch of mystery. White and bright tones have had their time in home design for a few years now, so it’s the perfect time to switch up the vibe with a moodier tone.
